Club career

The main part of Vogl’s career took place at the Uypest club , where Karoy was one of the main stars, the leader and long-term captain of the team. A tall, powerful, tough player, with a sense of rhythm, vision of the field, speed and excellent fighting and leadership qualities [2] .

Since 1918, the club, and since 1920, and in the national team, the main protection partner of Karoy Vogl was his brother Joséf Vogl . Their famous duet was called the Fogl-barrier or Fogl-zastava ( Hungarian Fogl-gát Fogl-gát - literally Fogl-dam), thus marking its reliability and impassability.

During Karoy Vogl’s speeches, Uipest was the third force in Hungarian football, only hoping to overcome the hegemony of the MTK and Ferencvaros clubs. During the 1910s - 1920s, the club three times took the second place in the championship and six times the third. Also, with the direct participation of Karoy Vogl, “Uypest” reached the final of the Cup of the country four times, twice losing to MTK and “Ferencvaros” [3] .

The first significant success, “Uypest” reached in 1929-1930. The team won the prestigious international Mitropa Cup trophy and became the country's first champion . The contribution of Karoy Vogl to these victories is minimal, he was already completing his career. Therefore, he played only one game in the championship and did not enter the field in the matches of the victorious Mitropa Cup, although in most sources this trophy was ranked among his achievements. Jozsef Vogl continued to play for the team, taking over the captain's armband from his brother. In the Mitropa Cup on the account of Karoy Vogl there are two matches in 1927 [3] .

After Uypest he played in the Vashash team , in which he played three matches.

In 1924 he was a participant in the Olympic Games in France . The Hungarian national team defeated the Polish national team in the first round (5: 0), and unexpectedly lost the modest national team of Egypt in the second round (0: 3). Goyle Mandi with MTK was the partner of Karoy Vogl in these matches, and brother Jozsef remained among the substitutes.

In total, in the years 1918-1929 he played 51 matches in the national team, which is a significant indicator for that time, and scored two goals. In 17 matches he was captain.

Coaching career

In 1934-1935, he simultaneously led the Bulgarian Sportclub club from Sofia and the Bulgarian national team . He became the champion of Bulgaria. He worked with the national team in seven matches in which the team won two victories and lost five times [4] . He coached the team in the qualifying match for the 1934 World Cup against the national team of Hungary (1: 4).

Then he worked in clubs in Romania , Hungary and Poland . In 1947 he became the champion of Poland with the Warta team (Poznan) .

He died on January 12, 1969 in the city of Budapest , a few days before the 74th anniversary.
