SM Rookies

2013-2017: Formation, and debuts of Red Velvet and NCT

The SM Rookies project was officially announced in December 2013, with members represented: Seulgi , Geno and Taeyeon . On December 10th, Irene , Jaehyun and Lamy were represented. On December 17th, Mark, Hansol and Jison were represented, and on December 24th Johnny, Ten and Utah.

On March 14, 2014, Wendy introduced the song “Because Of You” for the soundtrack to the drama “Mimi”. In April of the same year, SM launched the official website of the project. Donhyuk was introduced on July 17, 2014. In July of the same year, a video choreography was published with Irene and Seulgi , with the song “Be Natural” SES . Later that month, the agency confirmed that Irene , Wendy and Seulgi will debut as members of the new girl group Red Velvet . In August, a video was published in which Johnny, Taeyeon and Hansol dance to the song “Super Moon”. That same month, trainee Yeri was featured in the third Rookie Station video along with Taeyeon, Jehyun, Mark, Donhyuk, Geno and Utah.

On January 16, 2015, Doyeon was introduced as a new member of SM Rookis, he was supposed to be the new MC at Music Champion with Jehyun. In February, a report appeared on the Internet about the filming of the Red Velvet clip with trainee Yery . The following month, SM Entertainment officially introduced Yery as the fifth member of Red Velvet . After months of participating in various SM Rookies events, Jemin was officially unveiled in April 2015. On July 9, 2015, Coin, Hina, and Herin were represented. Theil was introduced on October 13, 2015, and Kuhn on December 18. In the same year, the Mickey Mouse Club show was released on the Korean version of Disney, the youngest participants of SM Rookies took part in it.

January 5, 2016, Vin-Vin was introduced. SM Entertainment founder Lee Suman announced plans to create a new male group that will debut with various subgroups based around the world. In April 2016, the agency confirmed that Taeyeon, Doyeon, Ten, and Jehyun will be the first NCT members in the first unit of NCT U. ^[3] In July, the agency also confirmed the debut of the second unit of NCT 127, which included Utah, Vin-Wing and Donhyuk (Hechan). ^[4] In August of the same year, the agency confirmed that Geno, Jemin, Hatchan, and Jison would enter the third unit of NCT Dream. ^{[5] [6]}

In September 2016, two new SM Rookies members, Iyan and Ning Ning, were introduced. In December 2016, the agency confirmed that Johnny will become another member of the NCT 127 unit.

In April 2017, Lucas and Chonu were introduced. At the end of June, Herin left SM Rookies and SM Entertainment , she was confirmed as a participant in the survival show from Mnet Idol School , Hansol also left the agency in October, he participated as a participant in the survival show KBS The Unit .

2018-present: New NCT members and WayV debut

In January 2018, Kun, Lucas and Chonu joined the NCT . They were spotted in Ukraine for filming for the upcoming return of NCT U. ^{[7] [8]}

On January 30, SM Entertainment confirmed the upcoming debut of the remaining SM Rookies members Kun, Lucas, and Chong through NCT 2018 Yearbook # 1 video. ^[9] On April 18, the NCT 2018 project debuted where all 18 NCT members came together ^[10]

On July 17, 2018, the new SM Rookies participants were introduced by Hendery, Xiaojun and Yang Yang. ^[11] In September 2018, Iyan left SM Rookies and SM Entertainment . She returned to China and joined The Next Top Bang's survival show.

On December 31, 2018, SM Entertainment announced the debut of NCT's Chinese unit, WayV , which included previously introduced members Henderi, Xiaojun and Yang Yang, and other Chinese NCT members.
