Setipinna [1] ( lat. Setipinna ) is a genus of bead - finned fish of the anchovy family. Representatives of five species are common in the Indo-Pacific region , marine pelagic fish. Representatives of 3 species ( S. brevifilis , S. phasa and S. wheeleri ) are fresh-water fish, distributed in the rivers of the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia . The maximum body length in different species varies from 11 to 40 cm [2] .

The generic Latin name is formed from seti - stubble, beard and buckwheat . πτερύγιο - fin, which reflects the presence of an elongated ray in the pectoral fins [3] .
Description
The beginning of the base of the dorsal fin is located approximately in the middle of the back. Keel scales are both in front of and behind the ventral fins. Anal fin long with a 27–81 soft ray. The upper ray of the pectoral fins is elongated into a thin thread, the relative length of which increases as the fish grow. The maxillary bone is one [4] [5] .
