History and Description
In the city of Gomel on November 9, 2017 [1] a monument was opened dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Belarusian police. It took almost a year to make the monument “100 Years of Belarusian Police” [1] . A two-meter bronze sculpture [2] (2.1 m) [1] , weighing 1.3 tons [1] , appeared near the Palace of Culture of Railway Workers at the intersection of Privokzalnaya Square and Privokzalnaya Street [1] . The main thing in the composition is the expressive figure of a senior police sergeant in the form of the 1950s with the awards of the participant of the Great Patriotic War: Order of the Red Star, medal "For Courage", "For Military Merit" [2] . Next to it is the M-72 motorcycle, which is produced only for police armaments.
The author of the monument is Gomel sculptor Vasily Kondratenko, whose work is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the strategic operation "Bagration", to employees of the internal affairs bodies of the Gomel region who died in the line of duty. His name is associated with the establishment of commemorative complexes in the village of Loyev and the village of Chenki, Gomel region [2] .
According to the sculptor’s creative plan, the policeman regulates street traffic, keeps his watch, and keeps order [3] . An elongated right hand squeezes the rod, and the left one pressed to the chest - a police whistle, on the shoulder - a field bag. The author created his figure on the basis of his front-line memoirs [3] . The creation of the same two-wheeled transport was a real motorcycle M-72 1958 release. He was introduced by a resident of the city of Gomel, Alexander Shamkin, who has been engaged in the restoration of retro transport for more than 25 years [3] .
The policeman occupies a round platform with the inscription “100 year of Belarusian Belarus”, which is located on the lower step of the pedestal. At the top step there is a memorial plaque with the inscription “4 sakavіka 1917 Dzen utensils of Belaruskiy militsi”. The monument symbolizes courage, courage and devotion to the homeland of the Belarusian police [1] .
