Description

Small ants (about 3 mm long) are yellowish-brown in color, resembling members of the genus Leptothorax , living in tropical forests at altitudes from 520 to 1325 m. They differ from closely related species ( Nesomyrmex rugosus and others) by the less angular shoulder edges of the pronotum, elongated postpetiole, longitudinal wrinkled sculpture of the surface of the body, long scape of the antenna. Antennae 12-segmented with mace of 3 segments. Abutments with 5 prongs. Propodeum angular with two spines. The stalk between the breast and abdomen consists of two segments: the petiole and the post petiolus (the latter is clearly separated from the abdomen), the sting is developed [1] [2] . The species was first described in 2016 by American entomologists Sándor Csősz and Brian Fisher ( Brian L. Fisher ; Entomology, California Academy of Sciences , San Francisco , California, USA ) based on materials from Madagascar. Included in the species group of Nesomyrmex sikorai , which is characterized by the absence of spines on the petioli nodule, the presence of spines on the posterior thorax and the methanotal groove [1] .
