Berkeley packet filter

Description

The packet selection module, implemented by the bpf command, allows you to capture the necessary network packets passing through any interface of the system and send them to a remote workstation for further analysis.

Packets are selected by duplication and do not interfere with the normal operation of the router.

Due to the limited memory and computing resources, the router software does not contain analysis tools.

It is for this purpose that the necessary network packets are duplicated and then transferred to the network administrator’s workstation, where he can perform detailed analysis using specialized software tools.

To receive and analyze packets received from the bpf module of a wireless device, the Wireshark software product or the tcpdump utility (when using Linux) can be used.
