Lotai Tsering ( dzong-ke བློ་གྲོས་ ཚེ་ རིང ; born in 1969 [1] [2] ) is a Bhutanese politician with a medical education who is currently the country's prime minister [3] [4] , holding this position since November 7, 2018. Since May 14, 2018 he is the chairman of the United Party of Bhutan [5] [6] .

Early life and education
Born in 1969 in the village of Daluha, gevog Mevang , Thimphu province [1] in an ordinary family [2] [7] .
He was educated at Punah High School and at the College of Sherubts . Then he studied at the Maimansingha College of Medicine at the University of Dhaka of Bangladesh , in 2001 becoming a bachelor of science [2] . In 2007, he studied urology at a medical college in Wisconsin ( USA ), thanks to a scholarship from the World Health Organization . Upon returning to Bhutan, he became the only practicing urologist in the country [8] . In 2010, he studied endourology at the General Hospital of Singapore and Okayama University in Japan . In 2014, he received a master 's degree in business administration from the University of Canberra , Australia [8] .
Personal life
Lothai Tsering is married, has a daughter. While working in the hospital, Mongara adopted a girl and adopted a boy [2] .
Professional career
Lothai Tsering worked as a surgeon at the Thimphu National Hospital and the Mongara Regional Hospital [9] , and for 11 years he was a urologist consultant at the Thimphu National Hospital [8] . He paid about 6.2 million ngultrum to the Royal Civil Service Commission for the opportunity to engage in political activities and stopped medical practice [2] .
Political career
In 2013, he participated in the Elections to the National Assembly of Bhutan , but his party did not go to the next round [9] . On May 14, 2018, Lotai Tsering received 1155 votes and was elected chairman of the United Bhutan Party just five months before the parliamentary elections [10] .
In 2018, he was elected in the elections to the National Assembly of Bhutan as a candidate for the United Bhutan Party from South Thimphu County, receiving 3662 votes. [11] In 2018, his party first entered the National Assembly, having received the largest number of seats, and Lothai Tsering became the country's Prime Minister [12] [13] .
Prime Minister
On November 7, 2018, he succeeded Tsering Tobgai as Prime Minister and was sworn in as the third democratically elected Prime Minister of Bhutan [14] [15] [16] . December 27, 2018 arrived with a three-day visit to India , which was his first trip abroad after taking office [17] [18] . On November 3, 2018, Lotai Zering announced cabinet appointments [19] .
Rewards
- In 1991 he was awarded the gold medal of his father William Mackay for academic success in Sherubts [2] [8] .
- In 2005, the Dalai Lama XIV presented the award “The unsung hero of compassion” [8] [2] .
- In 2017, he was awarded by King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk the Order of Druk Thuksey for “selfless and selfless service to our king, our country and our people” [8] [2] .
