From 2002 to 2011, she headed the Czech branch of the International Organization for Assistance to Children UNICEF .

Career

Jiřina Jiraskova was born in Prague into the family of a postal clerk and theater actress. She studied at the Prague Conservatory , but later transferred to the Academy of Musical Arts , which she graduated in 1950 [1] . After graduation, she worked for a year at the regional theater in Hradec Kralove , and in 1951 at the age of 20 she made her debut on the stage of the theater in Vinohrady , where she spent almost 60 years, and from 1990 to 2000 she even held the post of director [2] .

In the 50s of the 20th century, Yiraskova appeared on television screens - she took part in the filming of the first Czechoslovak TV series “The Family of Blagovykh” ( czech Rodina Bláhova ) [3] . The first feature film with the participation of the actress was released in 1960, the film "Accident" ( czech. Smyk ), directed by Zbynek Brinich . In the same year, she also appeared in films such as “Every penny is good” ( czech Kazdá koruna dobrá and “Looking into the eyes” ( czech. Pohled do očí ), and also began collaborating with comedy director .

In the period of the Czechoslovak “ normalization ”, Yiraskova had to interrupt her acting activities due to the ban by the authorities of the country, which, according to her own words, was associated with disagreement with the reforms of the 60s [4] . After returning to the screen in the early 80s, she appeared in a large number of motion pictures, the most famous of which were Sisters ( czech Sestricky ), released in 1983 .

From 2002 to 2011, the actress served as chairman of the Czech Committee of UNICEF [5] .

Personal life

For two years Jiraskova was married to actor . Later, she lived with director for 27 years. No kids.

The actress died on January 7, 2013 at the age of 81 in her Prague apartment after a long illness [6] [7] .
