Biography
Dorothea was the youngest daughter of Elector Brandenburg Frederick II (1413-1471) and his wife Katharina of Saxony (1421-1476), daughter of the Elector of Saxony Frederick I. There were only two surviving children in the family; Margarita and her older sister Dorothea .
In 1474, Brandenburg began a war with Pomerania because Boguslav refused to bring homage to Frederick II. On May 1, 1476 during the peace negotiations, it was decided that Boguslav would marry Margarita [1] . September 20, 1477 in Prenzlau, she married the Duke of Pomerania Bohuslav X (1454-1523). The marriage was burdensome for Bohuslav. Although the agreed dowry was very small, it was never paid. A year after the wedding, Uncle Boguslava, Vartislav X , died, which made Boguslava the only ruler of Pomerania in the last 200 years. In 1479, Boguslav made peace in Prenzlau with his wife's uncle, Albrecht III Achilles , recognizing Elector Brandenburg as his overlord.
The marriage was childless, and her husband accused her of infidelity and left her [2] . This led to political tensions with the Brandenburg electorate. The elector demanded that her dowry be returned, and Boguslav, in turn, claimed that the Hohenzollern house had slipped a barren princess into his wife so that they could inherit Pomerania [3] . In 1488, having obtained a court decision by which Margarita was found guilty, Boguslav locked her in the castle and began the divorce proceedings. Getting permission from the pope dragged on. In the second half of 1489, Margarita died. She was buried in St. Peter's Church in Wolgast. [4]
