History

It was founded on November 26, 1965 [4] , but the official date of birth is considered to be December 9, 1965 , when the corresponding decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR was executed by the ministries of higher and secondary special education of the USSR and the RSFSR [5] .

In January 1966, Leonid Viktorovich Ershov, a professor at the Moscow Mining Institute, became the acting rector. In April, the Institute was allocated several apartments in one of the buildings of the 1st district to organize the administration and reception of the first teachers, and the construction of the first building (school) in the Northern industrial zone began. In August, the former dean of the instrument-making faculty of the Moscow State Technical University named after A.M. Professor Leonid Nikolayevich Presnukhin , and for the settlement of nonresident students, one of the buildings of the hostel of builders on Yunost Street (now MIET campus) has been allocated.

September 1, 1966 - became the first September 1 of the new university. 250 people became first-year students, another 35 people became second-year students - mostly they were residents of Zelenograd who graduated from the first year at other universities. Classes were held on the second floor of the school that was still being completed and in the dormitory.

In 1967, construction began on the main building complex of the institute, under which a site was allocated in the southern industrial zone of the city. The architects of the complex were Felix Aronovich Novikov and Grigory Efimovich Saevich , the design engineer was Yuri Ionov. The project of the complex included separate architectural solutions of the complex of the Helsinki Polytechnic University , built in 1954-1969 according to the design of the architect Alvar Aalto [6] . As in the Aalto project, the academic buildings, the library, the club and the sports complex were to be built of red brick and combined with transitions into one micro-city [6] .

In the same year, the first faculties were formed - physical-technical (FT, design and production technology of integrated circuits ), microdevices and technical cybernetics (MPiTK, electronic and computing systems design), physico-chemical and electronic engineering (PCE & E, materials, technologies and equipment for the electronics industry), as well as evening.

In 1969, educational building No. 3 (junior courses and general education departments) was commissioned, and in 1970 - building No. 4 (senior courses and graduating departments); as a result, the institute was able to completely move to its own area. In 1971, after the commissioning of building number 1 (administration, library and large stream lecture halls) and building number 2 (club with an assembly hall and dining room), the construction of the institute complex was basically completed, and on December 27, the symbolic key At the same time, in the first years of operation of the first building, it was found that the solution chosen by the architects for the roof of the first building contributes to the artificial accumulation of rainwater and snow, and together with the waterproofing failure due to the use of materials with different coefficients of thermal expansion leads to systematic leakages [7] [ 8] .

The decoration of the external walls of the library of the main building was made in 1974 by sculptor Ernst Unknown in the form of a huge (970 m², on all four walls) white bas-relief “Becoming a Reasonable Man”.

In the 1972–1973 school year, about 6,000 students studied at the institute, and about 400 teachers worked, of whom 30 were professors and doctors of science, and another 200 were associate professors and candidates of science [9] .

On March 11, 1984, the institute was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor "for merits in the creation of special equipment and in the training of highly qualified specialists" [10] .

In 1992, the institute received the status of a technical university and the name of the Moscow State Institute of Electronic Technology (Technical University) [11] .
