Ryzhikh Alexander Naumovich ( May 31, 1897 , Samara - October 28, 1969 , Moscow ) - Soviet surgeon- proctologist , doctor of medical sciences (1938) [1] , professor (1939), honored worker of science of the RSFSR . Founder of the first in the USSR scientific school of proctologists [2] [3] .

Biography
He graduated from the 2nd Samara gymnasium with a gold medal [4] and decides to enter the medical faculty of Kazan University . But the quotas for Jews allocated to the university were exhausted. In 1915, he sought an audience with the Minister of Public Education of the Russian Empire , P.N. Ignatiev, and argues that he has the right to this education, because his grandfather, cantonist , served 25 years in the tsarist army and his descendants have all the rights of citizens of the Russian Empire. By direct order of the Minister, he was enrolled in the medical faculty of Kazan University [5] . The chair of surgery in those years was headed by Alexander Vasilyevich Vishnevsky , and Ryzhikh began to study with him in the circle.
In 1922 he graduated from the Medical Faculty [6] and was admitted to the clinic of A.V. Vishnevsky as an intern. Having shown great interest in teaching and research activities, he received a proposal to become an assistant department. In 1924, A. N. Ryzhih was sent to internship at a number of leading clinics in Germany and France. Soon after his return, he became a private assistant professor, combining teaching with clinical and scientific work, published 15 articles [4] .
In 1931–34 he worked as a doctor and surgeon at a hospital in the town of Kimry, Kalinin Oblast [7] , in 1934–41 he was the head of a surgical clinic at the Central X-ray Radiological Institute [6] .
During World War II , AN Ryzhykh was a senior inspector-surgeon at evacuation hospitals and the chief surgeon of the 3rd Ukrainian Front [6] . Until December 1942 he was a senior surgeon of the EG-1853 Moscow Military District . Then he served on the South-Western Front (from October 1943 - the 3rd Ukrainian) as a senior inspector - specialist of the Department of Physical-Industrial-Economic Policy-148, an army surgeon of the 8th Guards Army (December 1943-July 1944) and assistant to the chief surgeon of the front. From September 1944 he performed the duties of the chief surgeon of this front. In February 1945 he was wounded. He participated in the leadership of the front surgeons in the battles of Stalingrad and Kursk . He led the surgical service of the army in the battle for the Dnieper and the liberation of Right-Bank Ukraine . He carried out organizational and methodological guidance to front surgeons in the Yassy-Kishinev and Belgrade operations [6] . He was awarded two orders and several medals [6] [8] .
Engaged in proctology immediately after the war. In 1946, on his initiative and under the supervision of the surgical department of Moscow Hospital No. 18, the first 15 specialized proctological beds were opened. Professor Ryzhykh created a team from scratch, prepared specialists, laid the foundations of the specialty. By 1956, the number of specialized beds increased to 50, and the proctology department of the P.A. Gertsen Moscow Cancer Institute was established [9] .
In 1958, he visited the St. Mark's hospital in London , where he had a historic meeting with the world star of coloproctology, VB Gabriel, after whom many proctological operations were named [4] .
In 1960, the proctology department was transferred to the new hospital number 67 and expanded to 102 beds [10] . In 1965, it became a research laboratory for the proctology with a clinic of the RSFSR Ministry of Health [9] .
State Scientific Center for Coloproctology
In 1965, Ryzhih secured funds for the construction of the Institute of Proctology , the first specialized specialized medical institution.
From 1965 until the end of his life he was the head of the research laboratory on proctology with a clinic he founded. On the initiative of Professor A.N. Ryzhih, a special ten-story building was erected in which clinical and laboratory units were deployed, which became the Institute of Proctology, now the N. Ryzhykh State Scientific Center for Coloproctology [9] .
Author of more than 100 scientific papers.
He died on October 28, 1969 in the 72nd year of life, only a little before the end of the construction of the 9-storey building of the planned clinic. He was buried at the Vagankovo cemetery , near the church (section 2 a).
In 1997, to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the founder of Coloproctology in Russia, Professor A.N. Ryzhykh, a memorial plaque was installed in the hall of the Center for Coloproctology [9] .
Family
His wife is Nina Fedorovna Ryzhikh (Grishina), poetess, writer, author of a number of biographical works about A. M. Ryzhikh [11] [12] [13] .
