Modilions in one of the churches of Aquitaine
Modilon, modulon, modilon ( Italian: modiglione ) - an architectural detail such as a bracket that supports the teardrop plate of the crowning cornice of a composite , Doric or Corinthian order . Sometimes a modiglion plays only a decorative role; according to various sources, its name is of French [1] , Italian [2] or Latin (from Latin modulus - measure) origin. Apparently, this name arose because its width along the facade was equal to one module. The lower part of the moduleon was decorated with gutts . When using other types of orders, the module could be executed in the form of a console , which was decorated with volutes [3] .
