Garagoa ( Spanish: Garagoa ) - a city and municipality in central Colombia , in the Department of Boyaca . It is part of the province of Neira .

History
The settlement, from which the city later grew, was founded in 1556 [1] . The municipality of Garagoa was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1809.
Geographical position
The city is located in the southwestern part of the department, in the highlands of Eastern Cordillera , east of the Garagoa River, approximately 46 kilometers south of the city of Tunja , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 1685 meters above sea level [2] .
The municipality of Garagoa borders in the north with the territory of the municipality of Chinavita , in the northeast - with the municipality of Setakira , in the east - with the municipalities of Miraflores and Campohermoso , in the southeast - with the municipality of Macanal , in the south-west - with the municipalities of Almeida , Somondoko and S in the west - with the municipalities of Tens and Pachavit . The area of the municipality is 191.75 km² [1] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2015 was 16,944 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men made up 47.8% of the population of Garagoa, women - 52.2%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 99.7% of the city's population; Negroes , mulattoes and Raisals - 0.3% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 89.8%.
Economics
The basis of the economy of Garagoa is agriculture [1] .
51.8% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 37.1% are service enterprises, 10.1% are industrial enterprises, 1% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
