Description
Small parasitic riders (about 2 mm). It differs from the neighboring genera in the large size of the ovipositor, which is longer than the hind tibia, with a wide and flat face and long hypopygium, pointed at the apex, with setae along the entire length of the ovipositor; propodeum keeled; The first tergite of the abdomen is large and expands apically; Tergite II transverse. Antenna flagellum 16-segmented. The mandibular palps are 5-segmented, the lower labial palps composed of 3 segments. The respiratory tract of the first abdominal tergite is located on laterothergites. Parasites on caterpillars of butterflies ( Aegeriidae and Thyrididae ) [1] [2] .
Classification
The genus was first isolated in 1958 on the basis of the type species Dasylagon aegeriae Muesebeck, 1958 , and its valid status was confirmed by the American entomologist William Richard Mason in 1981. Dasylagon belongs to the subfamily Microgastrinae [1] [3] .
