Geography
It is located approximately eleven kilometers east of Bautzen and five kilometers southeast of Malschwitz. The K7219 highway passes through the village, connecting it in the north with the A4 highway.
Neighboring settlements: in the north-east - the village of Rakoydy , in the south - the village of Bela Gora (included in the urban boundaries of Weissenberg ) and in the north-west - the village of Pshivchitsy [2] .
History
First mentioned in 1368 under the name Kanewicz [3] .
Since 1994, it has been part of the modern commune of Malschwitz [4] .
Currently, the village is part of the cultural and territorial autonomy of the “ Luzhitsky Settlement Region ”, on the territory of which there are legislative acts of the lands of Saxony and Brandenburg, contributing to the preservation of the Luzhitsky languages and the culture of Luzhic [5] [6] .

Population
The official language in the village, in addition to German , is also Upper Luzhsky .
According to the statistical work “Dodawki k statisticy a etnografiji łužickich Serbow” by Arnost Muki, in 1884, 120 people lived in the village (115 of them were Serbluzhichans (96%)) [8] .
