History
The company was founded in 2012 . The presentation took place in the press center of the CHA on November 29, 2012 [1] [2] . The project was presented by Oleg Novikov (general director of the Eksmo publishing house), Sergey Anurev (general director of the company LithRes), Maxim Gurets (project leader MyBook) [3] . The company Litres was a key partner - supplier of electronic books. Then MyBook became part of the Liters Group.
At the beginning, the service existed only as a website mybook.ru, on which it was possible to read books online [4] . The starting catalog consisted of about 50,000 e-books. Later, MyBook mobile apps for iOS and Android were released. In December 2018, audiobooks appeared in MyBook.
At the beginning of 2019 in the catalog there are more than 170,000 e-books and 10,000 audiobooks.
Products
MyBook is a service for reading books by subscription. There are two types of subscriptions - standard and premium [5] . In the free access - classical literature [6] .
Users have access to mobile apps [7] for iOS, Android. Books in the application can be read without access to the network. The service offers personal statistics, recommendations, saving quotes, bookmarks, the ability to leave reviews of books [8] .
MyBook promotes the legal use of [9] [10] book collections while respecting copyright [11] .
Activity
The fund of the electronic library MyBook in February 2019 amounted to 174,000 books, 11,000 audiobooks [12] .
Legal action against Rospatent on the use of a trademark
When registering the MyBook trademark, disputes arose with Rospatent [13] . Initially, the company Litres filed an application in 2015 for five types of goods and services, but in 2017, she was refused registration of a trademark, since a similarity with two other trademarks was found. After the refusal, Liters narrowed the list of goods and services, the consent was received to register a trademark for the direction “transfer of digital files”, that is, for the mobile application MyBook [14] .
