Dayra ( ancient Greek Δαῖρα ) or Daeira ( ancient Greek Δάειρα ) is a character of ancient Greek mythology , the oceanic nymph from the city of Eleusis (now Elefsis ). The daughter of Ocean and Tefida , conceived from Hermes of the legendary king Eleusis - the founder of the same city [1] [2] .
According to another version - the mother of Immarad from Evmolpa [3] . Dairu is also called the sister of Styx or identified with Aphrodite , Hero , Demeter, or Persephone [4] [2] .
Dayra's figure no doubt relates to the Eleusinian Mysteries . Her name is translated as a teacher or an initiate and is believed to have been associated with the initiation and sacred meaning of the mysteries [2] [5] .
