Varta or Stroja ( German: Wartha ; V.-puddle. Stróža ) is a village in Upper Luzice , Germany . It is part of the Malschwitz commune of the Bautzen district in Saxony . Submits to the administrative district of Dresden .

Geography
It is located on the territory of the Biosphere Reserve " Wasteland and Lakes Upper Luzitsa " in the southern part of the Luzicky Lakes region, northeast of the administrative center of the commune of the village of Malschwitz. Located on the northern shore of Lake Olbase . The highway K 7218 passes through the village.
Neighboring settlements: in the east - the village of Dubo of the Hoendubrau commune, in the southeast - the village of Zubornichka and in the west - the village of Lemishov [2] .
History
First mentioned in 1331 under the name Wartha [3] .
Until 1950, it was the administrative center of the eponymous commune. From 1950 to 1994, it was part of the Klein-Ubernitz commune. Since 1994 it is part of the modern commune of Malschwitz [4] .
Currently, the village is part of the cultural and territorial autonomy of the “ Luzhitsky Settlement Region ”, on the territory of which there are legislative acts of the lands of Saxony and Brandenburg, contributing to the preservation of the Luzhitsky languages and the culture of Luzhic [5] [6] .

Population
The official language in the village, in addition to German , is also Upper Luzhsky .
According to the statistical work “Dodawki k statisticy a etnografiji łužickich Serbow” by Arnost Muki, in 1884 237 people lived in the village (225 of them Serbluzhichans (95%)) [8] .
