Davydovichi - a branch of the Rurikovich dynasty, descending from Prince Davyd Svyatoslavich . They reigned in Chernigov , which was approved after them in 1097 during the Lubech Congress of Princes. Early cut off on the male line.
History
The founder of the branch, Davyd Svyatoslavich, was among the participants in the Dolob Princely Congress (1103). After the death in 1113 of Svyatopolk Izyaslavich, the reign of Kiev under ladder law was to go to Davyd, but this for an unknown reason did not happen. In turn, when Davyd Svyatoslavich died in 1123, his younger brother Yaroslav Svyatoslavich took over the reign of Chernigov, and the son of Davyd Svyatoslavich Vsevolod took the place of the latter in Murom.
The third son of Davyd Svyatoslavich, Izyaslav , returned to the Davydovichβs hands the Chernigov throne much later - in 1151 , defeating the troops of Yuri Dolgoruky in the battle on the river Maly Rutets . Izyaslav managed to keep Chernigov during the siege of Chernigov by Yuri Dolgoruky and the Polovtsy . During the struggle for the reign of Kiev, in 1157 , after the death of Yuri Dolgoruky, Izyaslav Davydovich managed to become the Grand Duke of Kiev and at the same time retain part of the Chernigov lands. However, in the ensuing conflict with the princes of Galicia and Volyn led by Yaroslav Osmomysl and protracted hostilities in Smolensk, Belgorod and Kiev lands, Izyaslav was defeated and mortally wounded.
The last male representative of the Davydovichs, Svyatoslav Vladimirovich, being the oldest in the family of the descendants of his great-grandfather Svyatoslav Yaroslavich , made no attempt to intervene in the struggle for Chernigov. With his death in 1167, the Davydovich branch was cut short, and Vshchizh passed into the possession of the Olgovich branch.
