Description
Length 24 cm, weight 112 g. The plumage of the female is more dull. Young individuals are pale gray.
Scream - soft oo-ah-oo .
Distribution
The species has an extremely large range - South America from Colombia to southern Argentina and Chile . The population is expected to increase as habitat degradation creates new areas with suitable habitat conditions. Pigeons are numerous and are an object of hunting.
These pigeons feed mainly on the seeds that they find on the ground, but can also damage crops.
