Description

Small hard-toothed with an oval-shaped body of brownish-black color with a metallic reflex (pronotum lighter) [3] . Dung beetle inhabits coastal and lowland evergreen rainforests at altitudes of about 200 m. Antennas with a 3-segmented mace. Hind tibia with one apical spur [4] [5] . Internal apical angle of fore tibia ~ 90º or acute; the mesosternum is usually very short, located almost vertically; the clypeal process is usually absent, sometimes indicated by a weak longitudinal keel or transverse roller. The metasternum is usually convex. The extension of the legs of the middle and hind legs is due only to the curvature of the inner edge; the outer edge of the line [3] . The species was first described in 1887 by the English naturalist Henry Walter Bates (1825–1892) based on materials collected in Panama [6] [7] [8] [9] .
