General Information
Sports career
After studying in the United States, she became a professional tennis player in 2017. In 2018, she won several ITF tournaments.
In December 2017, she won the Australian doubles domestic selection, earning herself part in the main draw of the Australian Open 2018 tennis championship [2] .
In November 2018, she reached the semi-finals of the ITF tournament in Canberra (Australia), but lost to compatriot Olivia Rogovskaya in two sets.
At the Australian Open in 2019, Sharma qualified for the main draw and won her first round match against compatriot Priscilla Hon, but lost in the second round [3] . However, in mixed pairs, she and John-Patrick Smith made it to the finals after, during the tournament, the second pair defeated Bruno Soares and Nicole Melihar in the semifinal, but lost to Barbora Kreichikova and Rajiva Ram [4] . In April 2019, along with compatriot Zoe Hayes won the doubles title at the tournament in Bogota (Colombia), beating the American couple Haley Carter and En Shibahara in the final very confidently in two sets with a score of 6-1, 6-2. It is worth noting that at the same tournament in the women's singles Astra reached the final, in which she lost to the stubborn three-set match American Amanda Anisimova with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 1-6.
In June 2019, Sharma participated in the French Open Tennis Championship (Roland Garros) , where she lost in the first round to an experienced American Shelby Rogers with a score of 6-3, 6-3 [5] .
