Biography

Henry de Gray was the only son of John de Gray , 2nd Baron Gray of Wilton, from his first marriage to Anne de Ferrers. After the death of his wife, John de Gray married a second time and gave his son from his second marriage to Roger most of the patrimonial lands. As a result, when John died, Henry received, in addition to the title of Baron Gray of Wilton, only one third of his father's possessions. Many years of strife began. In 1328, Henry forcefully took Ratin's castle belonging to his half-brother, after which the crown intervened in the conflict. In the same year, an agreement was made, but the elder of the brothers did not benefit from this: Roger secured the land, bringing an annual income of 850 pounds, while Henry left the land with an income of only 283 pounds.

Between 1322 and 1335, Henry de Gray participated in wars with Scotland and France many times. He was married to Anne de Rockley, daughter and heiress of Sir Ralph de Rockley and Isabella de Claire. In this marriage at least one son was born, Reginald , who became 4th Baron Gray of Wilton, and at least one daughter - Maud, wife of John de Lyle, 2nd Baron Lyle of Rougemont .
