Biography
Tverdokhlebov's father was an Orthodox priest in the village of Starovelichkovskaya . In 1930, the family was expelled to the Northern Urals . In 1937, his father was arrested and shot in Yekaterinburg . In 1991 he was rehabilitated [1] .
Ivan Tverdokhlebov, who studied at the Krasnodar Art College, was forced to drop out of school and in 1930 began working in the oil fields of Adygea . In 1932-1941 he worked in Baku . In 1935, Tverdokhlebov met with the famous Soviet sculptor S. D. Merkurov , who attracted him to work on a monument to 26 Baku commissars . Since 1938 he worked as an artist in the Baku newspaper "Young Worker" [1] .
Member of the Great Patriotic War , senior lieutenant of 339 air defense artillery regiment [2] , a participant in the defense of Grozny. He had military awards [1] .
In 1946, after demobilization, he was offered to stay in Grozny. Tverdokhlebov accepted the invitation and became chairman of the Grozny Artist Association. Then he became chairman of the artistic council of the Chechen-Ingush branch of the Art Fund of the RSFSR. Under his leadership, the creative journey of such sculptors as Vasily Astapov , Ivan Bekichev , A.N. Safronov began. In 1948, his workshop was visited by Vera Mukhina [1] .
Tverdokhlebov is the author of a number of monuments to the leaders of the revolution, the heroes of the Civil and Great Patriotic Wars, drummers of labor, gallery portraits of Soviet people of the mid XX century. He was an innovator who applied composite materials in sculpture. His monumental works were installed in the squares, stadiums, squares and parks of Grozny, in the villages and auls of the North Caucasus . Member of many regional, all-Union and international exhibitions [1] .
