Prophylactic is a type of medical institution. Dispensaries appeared in the USSR in the 1920s (for the first time in Moscow, Leningrad, initially with tuberculosis dispensaries). It was intended for medical, preventive work among workers, employees, later collective farmers, students.
Prevention was organized by trade unions, primarily of large industrial enterprises (for example, ZIL Prevention, SAAZ Prevention). Workers, employees (primarily with chronic diseases, with professional ones) were sent to receive a range of medical and recreational activities.
As a rule, dispensaries were located close to enterprises. For such dispensaries, new buildings were built (such as the Kirovsky District Prevention Center in Leningrad), or mansions were transferred / rebuilt (for example Dacha Saltykova in Leningrad).
Preventive medicine in the 1920s and 1930s was presented as a complex of medical and preventive institutions: a canteen of medical nutrition (dietary), a night sanatorium, a day sanatorium, a physical therapy department, a sports ground, and a solarium.
Over time, the concept of a dispensary came closer to a sanatorium (sanatorium dispensary).
The name of the institution was transferred to the name of the area where these institutions were located (for example, Profilaktoriy St. in Kupavna).
