History
Before the creation of the provincial system, this territory was part of the Vodskaya Pyatina of Novgorod land [1] and was mainly inhabited by the Finno-Ugric tribes of Vod and Izhora .
Under Peter I, this territory became part of the newly established Ingermagland province (from 1710 - St. Petersburg).
A separate Christmas ( Rozhdestvensky ) district was formed on January 1, 1779 from part of the Koporsky district according to the decree of Catherine II “On the Establishment of the St. Petersburg Province of Seven Counties” [2] . The center was the city of Rozhdestvensky (Christmas) , which was granted the coat of arms on May 7, 1780 [3] .
But already in 1796, Rozhdestveno ceased to function as a county town [4] , and in 1802 the territory of the county was legally annexed to Sofia district . The city of Rozhdestveno has become a volost center.
