Story
In August 1944, patient Joseph Higgins, a postman ( Moore Marriott ), dies on an operating table in a rural hospital somewhere in southeast England. The anesthetist Barney Barnes ( Trevor Howard ) had had a patient death incident before, and when Sister Bates ( Judy Campbell ) died after she discovered that Higgins’s death was not an accident, Inspector Coqurill ( Alastair Sim ) is asked to investigate the nurse’s murder. Cochrill’s investigation is hampered by the conflict between Barnes and Mr. Eden ( Leo Genn ) because of their competition for the affection of nurse Freddy ( Sally Gray ). After the attempt was made on the nurse Freddy, the inspector reconstructs the operation and exposes the killer.
