Career

Jackson has been fond of cartoons since childhood. While studying at Otis College of Art and Design in 1928, he turned to Walt Disney and offered to pay him "tuition" for the experience of teaching animation. His skill did not impress the young producer.

When Disney proposed making Steamboat Willie (1928) in sound, Jackson, who liked to play the harmonica, proved that this was possible by developing the first synchronization method that linked the film’s speed with the metronome’s musical beats. [one]

He continued to help and quickly became the director of short films. He retired in 1961. In 1953, Wilfred Jackson suffered a heart attack. In 1959, Jackson took a long vacation, which ended with his official resignation in 1961.

He was posthumously named Disney legend in 1998.
