Biography
Lucha Sauka was born on September 30, 1960 in the commune of Coroiesti, Vaslui County, Romania . She was engaged in rowing in Bucharest in the metropolitan rowing club Steaua.
She made her debut at the adult international level in the 1983 season, when she joined the main team of the Romanian national team and spoke at the World Championships in Duisburg , where she took the fifth place in the standings of the oars steering eights.
Thanks to a series of successful performances, she was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles (as a country of the socialist camp, formally, Romania boycotted these competitions for political reasons, but Romanian athletes were still allowed to compete privately). Here, Sauka started as a part of the oar crew, which also included rowers Marioara Trashke , Doina Schnep-Belan , Aneta Mihai , Aurora Pleska , Kamelia Dyakonesku , Michaela Armeshesku , Adriana Bazon and helmsman Vyorika Jozha - in the finals of the eight crew came from the second team States and thereby won the silver Olympic medal.
After the Los Angeles Olympics, Lucha Sauka remained in the Romanian rowing team for another Olympic cycle and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 1985, she went to represent the country at the world championship in Hasevinkel , where she won a bronze medal in eights.
In 1986 at the World Championships in Nottingham, she won the oar steering fours. At the same time she got married and since that time she competed in competitions under the name of her husband Toader.
At the 1987 world championships in Copenhagen, she took first place in the eights, thus becoming a two-time world champion in rowing. Soon after the end of these competitions she decided to end her sports career.
She died on December 8, 2013 in the city of Pitesti at the age of 53 years [1] [2] .
