Biography
Tufa Ugu was the son of Tufa Syfujian, who became a leader in 356 and recognized himself as a vassal of the state of Early Qin . When Tufa Syfujian died, and when he became the leader of Tufa Ughu instead, there is no data. In 394, Lu Guang , who founded the state of Late Liang , suggested Tufa Ugu to become his general, and Tufa Ugu, discussing this issue with his associates, agreed.
In 395, Tufa Hugu forced a number of neighboring tribes to submit, built himself the base of Lianchuan fortification (in the northwestern part of modern Minhe-Hui-Tui Autonomous County of Haidong City, Qinghai Province), and received the title of "Guangyu Specific Gong " from Lu Guang (廣 武 郡公).
In 397, after Lu Guan was defeated by the ruler of Western Qin, Tsifu Gangui , Tufa Ugu proclaimed himself the “Sipin Prince” (西 平王) and introduced his own chronology, thereby becoming an independent ruler. After that, he captured the city of Jincheng (in the northwestern part of modern Lanzhou , Gansu province), which Late Liang captured just a year earlier from Western Qin. Lu Guang sent General Dou Gow against him, but Tufa Ugu was able to fight back.
In 397, the fortuneteller Guo Nen rebelled in the capital of Late Liang, Guzan, and requested help from Tufa Ugu. Tufa Ugu sent his brother Tufa Lilugu to help him , but later Guo Nen joined Western Qin, not South Liang. In 398, the other two generals from Late Liang, Yang Gui and Wang Chiji, sided with South Liang. A year later, Tufa Ugu defeated the powerful Qiang leader Liang Ji, after which he was subjugated by the Qiang and Hun tribes living south of the Hunchi Mountains (in the territory of the modern urban district of Uwei ). In the same year, Tufa Ugu changed his title from “Sipinsky Prince” to “Uwei Prince” (武威 王).
In the spring of 399, Tufa Ugu moved his headquarters to Leda . Later that year, when he was drunk, he fell off his horse and injured his chest. Since his condition worsened, before his death, he ordered that an adult be chosen as the new ruler, and after his death, he elected to choose his brother Tuf Lilugu as the new ruler of the state.
