Edinet Pomeranian Community - Besopov Old Believer Community in the city of Edinet (Edinet) in Moldova . The main prayer house is the “temple” of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos.
History
Old Believers moved to Edinet from East Prussia and Latgale in the first half of the 19th century. They belonged to the Feodoseyev agreement . In the early 1850s, 20 Old Believers' families from Dinaburg moved to the town of Edinet [1] . From the 1880s, the community had its own prayer and school [2] .
In 1901, the community joined the Maritime Pomor agreement [3] . In 1942, the old church burned down. In 1959, a worship cross was installed in its place. In 1960, an attempt was made to equip a prayer room in the house, but it was stopped by the authorities. In the early 1970s, they managed to obtain a building permit at the Old Believers' cemetery “guards” for the funeral service of the dead. Since the guardhouse significantly exceeded the planned size, the authorities wanted to demolish it, but the Old Believers were able to get permission in Moscow. In 1974 this building was consecrated as the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos [2] .
As of 2018, the number of the community is about 1,000 [2] .
Mentors
From the beginning of the 20th century and until 1922 the community was headed by Miron Kondratievich Vishnyakov. He was replaced by Sergiy Evdokimov, who led the community until the late 1920s. Then Nestor Mironovich Vishnyakov was a mentor for about forty years, who was replaced by Maxim Sergeevich Evdokimov. In 1974–2006, the community was headed by Kir Mironovich Vishnyakov, and after his death, Vasily Ivanovich Fokov [2] [3] became a mentor.
