Biography
Brid was born and raised in San Francisco . Comes from a low-income family. Her sister died of a drug overdose in 2006, and her brother was in prison at the time of her election. Brid graduated with honors from Galileo High School, in 1997 she graduated from the University of California at Davis with a bachelor's degree in political science, and in 2012 received a master's degree in municipal management from the University of San Francisco. In 1999, Brid came as an intern to the administration of Mayor Willie Brown . In 2002, Brown appointed her Executive Director of the Center for African American Culture and Art.
For five years, Brid served as a member of the commission of the city agency for reconstruction, Mayor Gavin Newsom was introduced to the commission on fire safety in 2010. In 2012, Breed was elected to the Supervisory Board of San Francisco from District 5. In 2015, she was elected head of the council. On May 12, 2017, Mayor Ed Lee died of a heart attack, after which Breed became the mayor. On January 23, 2018, the Supervisory Board appointed Acting Mayor Mark Farrell instead of Brid in connection with her participation in the election for this position. She won the special mayoral election on June 5 of the same year, and on July 11 officially became the 45th mayor of San Francisco and the first African American in the post.
