Career
Atanasiou began his youth career in the 2010/11 season for the London Knights OHL team. In the first season, Andreas was not outstanding, scoring 22 points in 57 games for the “Knights”, and for six games in the playoffs he did not score a single point. The 2011/12 season turned out to be more successful for Atanasiou, in the regular season he scored 37 points, with 22 goals scored, and in the playoffs with the team reached the final of the conference, where he chalked up 1 goal and 3 assists. In anticipation of the 2012 NHL draft, he took 41st place in the ranking among field players playing in North America according to the NHL Central Scout Bureau .
In the 2012/13 season, Atanciu was traded from London Knights to another OHL club, Barry Colts . In the first season for the new club, Andreas became one of the leaders of the team, reaching the final of the playoffs with the Colts. In the 2013/14 season, he became the team's top scorer, gaining 95 points in 65 games.
On November 20, 2013, Atanasiou signed a three-year rookie contract with the NHL club Detroit Red Wings , who selected him in the 2012 NHL draft round 4 under a common 110th number [1] .
On April 15, 2014, Andreas made his debut for the Red Wings Farm Club , the Grand Rapids Griffins team [2] . He spent the first full season in the AHL in the 2014/15 season, gaining 32 points in 55 games in the regular season, adding 9 more points to the playoffs with 16 games played.
The debut of Atanasiou in the NHL came in the 2015/16 season, November 8, 2015 in the Red Wings match against the Dallas Stars . [3] On November 10, 2015, in his second game in the NHL career, Andreas scored the first goal in the league, it happened in the match against the Washington Capitals against goalie Braden Holtby [4] . In the 2016/17 season, Atanasiou signed a 1-year contract with Red Wings, the deal amounted to $ 1.387 million [5] .
Personal life
Andreas's father is Greek , and his mother is of Guyanese descent [6] . Atanashiu is also a vegan [7] .
