Biography
Elizabeth Lazar was born on August 22, 1950 in the city of Arad , Romania .
The first serious success at the adult international level was in the 1970 season, when she joined the main team of the Romanian national team and spoke at the European Championships in the Hungarian city of Tata, where in the standings of the pair of steering fours she beat all her rivals and won a gold medal.
At the 1971 European Championships in Copenhagen, she was again the best in twin fours, thus becoming a two-time European champion in rowing.
At the 1973 European Championships in Moscow, she became a silver medalist in the same discipline, losing only the titled East German athletes at the finish line.
In 1974, she attended the World Championships in Lucerne , where, in addition to the men's disciplines, women's disciplines were first introduced. As a result, she brought here a silver award, won in doubles with a steering - in the decisive final race, only the team from East Germany passed ahead.
At the world championship in 1975 in Nottingham, she could not get into the number of prize winners, she finished sixth in double steering fours.
Thanks to a series of successful performances, she was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal - for the first time in the Olympic program, women's rowing appeared. As part of a double four-seater steering crew, which also included rowers Felicha Afresiloaie , Ioana Tudoran , Maria Miksha and helmsman Helena Dzhurke , in the final, Lazer came to the finish line third behind teams from the GDR and the USSR - thereby won the bronze Olympic medal. Soon after the end of these competitions, she decided to end her sports career [1] [2] .
