Mar del Plata 1944 (chess tournament)

Mar del Plata 1944 is the fourth of a series of traditional international chess tournaments held in the Argentine city of Mar del Plata .

The competition was attended by Argentine chess players, chess players who remained in South America after the outbreak of World War II , the then champion of Uruguay A. Libstein, as well as Chileans R. Flores and E. Reed.

The victory in the competition was shared by M. Najdorf and G. Pilnik, one and a half points ahead of their closest competitors P. Michel and K. Guimard.
