Geography

It is located southwest of the administrative center of Hochkirch at the foot of the Chorneboch hill (Czorneboh, Čornobóh, 555 m.).

Neighboring settlements: in the north-east - the administrative center of the commune Hochkirch and in the south-west - the village of Vuezhk pod Chornobogom [2] .

History

It was founded in the first half of the 19th century. The oldest building dates from 1837. Until 1936, it was part of the Wuiske commune. In 1936, together with the village of Wuiske, it entered the modern commune of Hochkirch.

In April 1945, 85 Soviet and Polish troops were shot in a forest southeast of the village. In place of the mass grave, discovered in 1961, a memorial obelisk was erected in 1962 on the road towards the village of Vuiske.

Currently, the village is part of the cultural and territorial autonomy of the “ Luzhitsky Settlement Region ”, on the territory of which there are legislative acts of the lands of Saxony and Brandenburg, contributing to the preservation of the Luzhitsky languages and the culture of Luzhic [3] [4] .

The official language in the village, in addition to German , is also Upper Luzhsky .
