Story

Two warring families live in Manhattan : Capulet and Kew. In the past, Monty Kew had his own film company, but blackmail by Cappie Capulet forced Monty to rewrite the company on him. Monty Ingrid's wife also went to Cappie. Monty began to get drunk, and with Cappie things went uphill, on the contrary. A lot of time has passed since then, but families are still at war with each other and arrange some dirty tricks.

In the summer, Cappie Capulet organizes a costume ball in her house. Tromeo, the son of Monti Kew, also comes to the ball in a cow costume. He only wants to see his girlfriend Rosie, who should be present among the guests. However, Tromeo accidentally discovers that Rosie has another man. At the same time, Tromeo meets at the ball Juliet, the daughter of Cappie Capulet, whom she invites to dance. Tromeo and Juliet instantly fall in love with each other. They dance until the owners of the house recognize Tromeo and drive him away from the party.

Juliet does not sleep well and often sees nightmares. During nightmares, she screams in a dream. Her cruel and authoritarian father Cappie reacts very aggressively to such things. At such moments, he closes Juliet in a soundproof glass box so that she does not make noise. This happened the night after the party. That night, Tromeo enters the house of the Capulets, who spends time until the morning with Juliet in her glass prison. Juliet says that in a few days she should marry her unloved meat magnate London Arbuckle. Tromeo offers Juliet to marry him as soon as possible. The girl agrees and the next day Padre Lawrence crowns them.

This news is causing anger at Cappie Capulet. The conflict between the families of Capulet and Kew goes into an acute phase. Members of both families die. The priest gives Juliet the address of a certain Fu Chang from Chinatown and asks for help from him. Fu Chang gives the girl a potion that should make her disgusting. The potion works, and Juliet turns into a monster. Seeing this monster, her fiancé London Arbuckle is thrown out of the window. The potion loses its power when Tromeo kisses Juliet. Having lost such a profitable son-in-law like London Arbuckle, Cappie Capulet is furious and pounces on Tromeo. Together, lovers manage to cope with it.

Tromeo and Juliet leave the building. On the street they meet Monty Kew and Ingrid, from whom they learn that Cappie Capulet is the real father of Tromeo, that is, Tromeo and Juliet's brother and sister. Stunned by this news, the lovers still decide to stay together, because they already had to go through a lot for this.

Criticism

The New York Times called the film “an insanely disgusting parody of Shakespeare.” [2] The AV Club also called the film an “aggressively tasteless parody.” At the same time, the publication noted that this film is the loudest release of Troma studio in the 90s and praised the soundtrack [3] . The TV Guide set the movie 1 star out of 5. According to them, describing the contents of the movie is funnier than watching it on the screen [4] .
