Monument Opening

The idea of the monument belongs to the botevgrad Ivan Nikolchovsky , which was supported by the Executive Committee of the City People's Council. In 1959-1960, a competition was held, the project was won by Professor Ivan Mandov . A meeting with Mandov and a public discussion took place in the building of the City People's Council, in Building 3 on Gurko Street. In May 1960, Mandov presented a plaster model of the monument, after which the kmet proposed to everyone who wanted to speak out about the idea. Representatives of the Bulgarian Communist Party, the Patriotic Front, Trade Unions, Women's Council, TKZS, DOSO and other organizations expressed their opinions, among which there were incompetent and sometimes ridiculous assessments. The professor said that he could not satisfy the requirements of the citizens of Botevgrad, and the question of the monument remained open until 1966.

In 1966, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Botevgrad, the issue of opening the monument was again on the agenda. The authorities persuaded Mandov to implement the idea, promising not to interfere in the discussions and creative discussions at the local level. On October 9, 1966, a grand opening took place, attended by the head of Bulgaria Todor Zhivkov , a delegation from Saransk , as well as many foreign guests. Zhivkov solemnly cut the ribbon, revealing the monument.
