Cathy L. Whitlock is an American scientist in the field of Earth sciences, an anthropogen, paleoecology and paleoclimatologist specialist. Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA (2018) [2] , Doctor of Philosophy (1983), Regent Professor of the University of Montana , where she has been working since 2004 and also consists of the Fella Institute of Ecosystems ( Montana Institute on Ecosystems ), co-founder of which was from 2011 to 2017, and heads the paleobotany laboratory that she created; in 1995-2005 professor at the University of Oregon.

Biography
She grew up in Syracuse (New York) and Denver (California). When she was 14 years old, her family moved to Colorado. Graduated from (bachelor of geology magna cum laude , 1975). At the University of Washington she received a master's degree (1979) and a Ph.D. (1983) in geological sciences, specializing in paleoecology. In 1983-84 NATO's Fello Postdoc Research at the Department of Botany, Dublin Trinity College. In 1984-1990 employee of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. In 1988-1990 also an assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh. In 1990-2007 Oregon State University: Initially Associate Professor, 1995–2005 Full Professor, 1999-2004 headed the department of geography. Since 2004, Professor, since 2018 Regent Professor of the University of Montana, in 2011—2017. co-director of the Montana Institute on Ecosystems . Lead author of Montana Climate Assessment (2017). She was president of the . Fello of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2011) and the Geological Society of America (2017). Spouse Bob Gresswell.
The author of more than 200 works, in particular in Nature, Science, Ecology, PLOS One, BioScience .
