Roy, Chip

Roy grew up in Lovetsville , Virginia . He received a bachelor's and master 's degree from the University of Virginia and worked as an investment banking analyst for three years. He received his doctorate from the University of Texas School of Law and worked for the then Attorney General of Texas, John Cornin . Roy also worked on the election campaign of US Senate candidate Cornyn in 2002. When Cornin was elected, Roy became a member of the Senate Judiciary. He also worked in the office of the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas.

Roy joined the administration of Texas Governor Rick Perry as director of the Department of Federal Relations. Roy was the author of Perry’s 2010 book Fed Up! And worked for Perry’s presidential campaign in 2012 . Ted Cruz chose Roy as the head of his office after being elected to the Senate in 2012. ^[2] After Ken Paxton was elected Texas Attorney General in 2014, Roy became First Attorney General. In 2016, Roy left the Office of the Attorney General to head the Trusted Leadership Political Action Committee , which supported Cruz’s presidential campaign.

Roy met his wife Kerra at the University of Texas. They have two children. Roy was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2011.
