The All-Russian charity society “Satisfy My Sorrows” settled in Irkutsk in 1890, setting up two almshouses and a large orphanage here. The house at the current address of Fourier, 11, it was bought from the former mistress Alexandra Mikhnovich in 1901. On the second floor there was one of the departments of the women's almshouse and office, and on the first there was a dining room for the poor layers of the local population. Under the auspices of society, the estate functioned until the final and unconditional establishment of Soviet power, when the almshouse was dispersed and a normal residential communal was made here. <...> Also, writer Mikhail Bashkirov lived and worked here, whose novel Autumn Cutoff was nominated for the 2003 Russian Booker Prize. To the inhabitants of the house, he was remembered by the fact that in any weather he sat in front of an open window overlooking Fourier Street, and constantly typed. From his early work, the neighbors remembered only the story with the ridiculous name “Bath Thief”. [one]
He began to print in his student years. The Irkutsk writer Anatoly Mikhailovich Shastin became a literary mentor.
Goldfarb S.I. Anatoly and Elena Shastiny in Irkutsk. Irkutsk: Agency "Komsomolskaya Pravda - Baikal", 2000 :
Among those who studied with Shastin, there were not youths, but, as a rule, men with their own fate and truth. An important element of the teaching was reading - he selected books from the home library and gave them out for strict recording. Shastin had his own method. First, he led the young author to the newspaper, then to the Sibir magazine, and only then to the publisher. Probably his most successful student was Mikhail Bashkirov. Anatoly Mikhailovich worked with him for many years. Persistently forced him to rewrite pages and chapters. But writing the manuscript was half the battle. It was much more difficult to push it into the publishing plan. His first story "Relic" was well received, followed by the novels "Bath Thief" and "Open Text". M. Bashkirov collected the novels in a book, it was discussed in the prose section and recommended for publication. I know that Anatoly Mikhailovich supported almost all the work of Bashkirov.
In the 1970-1980s. He worked in expeditions to Western and Eastern Siberia, in Mongolia.
Since 1987, positioned himself as a prose writer and freelance writer.
The author of the character "Robot Ursik" for the children's magazine "Siberian" [2] .
In the 1990s worked as creative director of the business weekly advertising newspaper. Created new types of newspaper ads ("banners", "blocks", etc.).
In the 2000s until the end of his life he was engaged in literary work - independently and in collaboration with his wife.

Reviews and reviews :
[B.p.] And the Führer had a kote // Read together. 2012. May. S. 19
“Actually, Bashkirtsev is trying to give out the usual rogue novel in which one adventure is strung on another until the writer is bored with a description of events in a chain, for something more and more exceptional. And it is not surprising that the book is full of: tycoons who own gold mines, and members of a ruthless sect, stealing cats, and conspiracies of all stripes. In other words, an entertaining, light, partly pathos, slightly ironic, without special depth and subtext romance for an amateur. It reads fast in the subway ” [4] .

“The history of cats is always more entertaining than human history, for these graceful tetrapods are deprived of many vices, among which are greed and predictability. Of course, we cannot but rejoice at the author’s statement that“ when writing the novel, not a single mewing creature was harmed ”.
Novikova E. Schizophrenic splint // Your leisure time No. 18 May 9-20, 2012. P. 72.
“The text, balancing on the verge of popular print, kitsch and fairy tales, was created by an Irkutsk writer, a nominee for the Russian Booker of 2003, especially for the satiated Europeans. Fans of cats will not be able to read descriptions of atrocities over "dirty creatures", and opponents of mewing creatures will be upset that the protagonist has survived. "

“By the book of M. Bashkirov, the publishing house“ Fluid FreeFly ”continued its original series“ Russian Novel for Europe ”. The annotation says: “This novel is a combination of the tradition of the great Russian literature with the techniques of modern Western bestsellers.” It’s clear with traditions - the author’s noble moral position, tearing off all kinds of masks, sympathy for our smaller brothers, etc. From the Western bestsellers, apparently, came cheap tricks like “Fuhrer cat” in the title - in fact, the hero of the novel is his distant descendant . Agree, this is not the same thing. " [five]
Tsvetkov K. Our Siberian postmodernism // The Novosib Room. http://novosib-room.ru/nash-sibirskij-postmodernizm-72824/
“The author wanted to write an unusual Russian novel for Europe, which gave a start to a series of such books. Indeed, books about Afghan villages, Indian slums and African ghettos are becoming bestsellers, and no one has written about the Siberian hinterlands! Europe still has the wildest ideas about Siberia, and the author tried to fix it. And he went even further, giving a sober look at Europe from Siberia. This look belongs to the very beloved cat of the Führer, which by the will of fate falls into Russia. Yes, not just to Russia, but to its very wilderness, to Lake Baikal, where he, the aristocrat of blood, has to survive, as he has to. This is a novel about the relationship between humans and cats. Many note the author’s interesting presentation: through the eyes of a very purebred cat. The cat feels sounds and smells, not understanding the words, but grasping the essence of what is happening with animal intuition. And this essence, as a rule, is impartial, highlighting episodes of human meanness and cowardice in a new way. In the book you will also find many beautiful descriptions of the nature of Siberia, described with love and knowledge of the matter. In general, this is not a fun vaudeville adventure, not at all. And for lovers of light reading, as well as people with an unstable psyche and younger than 25 years, we would not recommend this novel. ” [6]
The last work, in collaboration with I. Bashkirova, is “The Diary of a Family Robot” (2018, published on the Ridero publishing platform) [7] .
“The most expensive family robot in the world was bought by an ordinary housewife. The beginning of the robot’s career turned out to be generous with surprises. A family riddle, the secret of unlocked rooms, the strange behavior of the owner of the goods of the year and the inexplicable disappearance of the whole large family, including the cat and dog. The first day…"
The intended continuation of the publication did not materialize.
