Bombard ( Italian. Bombard ) is a historical type of flat-bottomed sailing merchant ships used in Italy to navigate the Mediterranean until the middle of the XIX century. As a rule, such a vessel had two masts-single-tree and bowsprit .
The origin of the name is associated with the similarity of sailing equipment with bombing ships [1] [2] .
