Biography

Riccardo Romiti grew up in Greve in Chianti in the province of Florence , Italy [2] . He was introduced to StarCraft II and eSports by his father, Massimo Romiti, who plays this game in the diamond rank and is the manager of the Exeed Esports eSports team. At home, Riccardo’s career was supported in every possible way; he came to all tournaments at a young age either with his mother or father [3] . In addition to StarCraft II , Reynor likes to play Dark Souls and League of Legends , and also plays tennis to maintain the speed of reflexes [4] . StarCraft II attracts him with its competitiveness and complexity [5] .

Romiti joined his first eSports team, Ace of Spades, at the age of 8. From 2013 to 2016, he played for the mYinsanity team. At the age of 12 years and 40 days, he reached an elite league in StarCraft II (the Grandmaster League , the highest game rank, which includes 200 players with the highest in-game rating in the region), becoming the youngest grandmaster in the history of StarCraft II [6] . Subsequently, Reynor played for the True eSport team, briefly joined the Next Gaming team, and then joined the Prophecy E-sports team, which later developed into the Exeed Esports organization. Riccardo left Exeed Esports at the end of 2018 [7] . At the beginning of 2019, he joined the French e-sports organization Gamers Origin , for which the well-known e-sportsman Iles “Stephano” Satori stands for [8] . According to Riccardo, “the transition to GO seems to me a breath of fresh air, because for a very long time I was not in the team from outside Italy” [9] .

Since 2018, upon reaching the age of 16, Reynor has been able to compete in the WCS . Before the start of his speeches, he spent a month in South Korea , devoting all his time to training and studying new strategies and tactics [4] . His first tournament in this series was the 2018 WCS Valencia, in which he reached the quarter finals and lost to Joone “Serral” Sotale [10] , future world champion [4] . In the next tournament, 2018 WCS Montreal, Reynor defeated e-sportsmen such as Alex “Neeb” Sanderhaft , Lee “TIME” Peinan and Mark “uThermal” Schlappi , making it to the finals, in which he again met with Joona Sotala and lost him with a score of 3: 4 [11] . It should be noted that for Serral it was the fourth WCS tournament won this year [12] .

In the same year, Riccardo Romiti calibrated for GSL Season 3: Code S - the most prestigious Korean StarCraft II tournament, where he reached the second group stage, in which there were 16 of the best e-sportsmen in the world. He was one of the three youngest players to achieve this result, after Cho “Maru” Song Chu , who succeeded at 14, and Lee “Life” Son Hyun , who achieved this result at 15 [3] . According to Romiti, Alex “Neeb” Sanderhaft , Juan Carlos Tena “SpeCial” Lopez , Beck “Dear” Don Joon and Kim “Stats” Dae Yop , with whom he was preparing for the competition, helped him achieve this result [5] .

Reynor also repeatedly won in small tournaments, such as the WardiTV Christmass Invitational 3 [13] and WardiTV Summer Championship [14] in 2018, but did not score the number of points necessary for getting into the 2018 WCS Global Finals [14] .

At the 2019 WCS Winter Europe, Riccardo Romiti met with the reigning world champion, Joona “Serral” Sotala , in the group stage, defeating him 2-0. Reynor and Serral met again in the final of this tournament, as a result of which Reynor won with a score of 4: 3 [15] . According to Riccardo, only after winning the WCS Winter did he begin to consider StarCraft as his career; before that, he played it only because he liked it, while learning programming [16] . At 2019 WCS Spring Reynor took 3-4 place, losing in the semi-final of Joon “Serral” Sotale with a score of 0: 3 [17] . At 2019 WCS Summer, Riccardo took first place, in the final meeting again with Serral and defeating him with a score of 4: 2 [18] .

Game Style

Among the players who shaped his playing style and inspired him, Reynor calls Lee “Life” the Son of Hyun and Jens “Snute” Oskord , and also admits that Joona “Serral” Sotala could also influence him [5] .

Reynor did not immediately select the Zerg race. Before that, he played for both the Terrans and the Protoss, changing races because of the desire to experiment, until he fell in love with Zerg for the mechanics of unit production and their high speed of movement [4] .
