Biography
Born on October 20, 1906 in St. Petersburg in the family of the attorney Sergey Nikolayevich Borchsenius (1878-1917). Mother - Vera Evgenievna Borkhsenius (Zelenkova) (1880-1949) [2] .
- Graduated from the Faculty of Biology of Leningrad University in 1928
- He began his career as an entomologist in the quarantine services of the USSR in 1929
- He defended his thesis in 1941
- Joined the Zoological Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1944
- In 1947, Nikolai Sergeyevich defended his doctoral dissertation entitled "Pseudococcids in the USSR"
- In 1956 he became a professor and in 1959 - deputy director of the Zoological Institute .
Dr. Borchsenius led long expeditions in different parts of the USSR, as well as in Korea, China and India. The vast majority of the material was processed and published in articles. Nikolai Sergeevich for the first time described the new family Lecaniodiaspididae, several subfamilies and tribes, dozens of genera and hundreds of new species of coccids, in particular, the Cherepitsevidnoe worm .
For twenty years he was a member of the committee of the Soviet Entomological Society , in the period 1944-1952 - secretary. A few years before his death, he became vice president of the Society. In 1958, he participated in the 15th International Zoological Congress in London and was a member of the Nomenclature Committee . He was a delegate to the 11th International Congress of Entomologists in Vienna in 1960 and to the 12th in London in 1964.
He died on May 5, 1965, was buried in Leningrad .
Field of Activities
He was engaged in the study and classification of worms and scale insects, the superfamily of insects from the order Hemiptera. The works also touched on the practical side: prevention and control of worms as agricultural pests, as well as use in light industry as a source of dyes, wax and shellac. [3]
