Biography
Born in the family of a small merchant. In 1892 he entered the Shushi Theological Seminary, graduated from the seminary in 1902. In 1905 he graduated from the Gevorgyan Seminary in Etchmiadzin .
In 1905, his first article, “Culturally or Uncategorized,” was published in the Taraz magazine.
From 1907 to 1909 he studied in St. Petersburg, at the Psychoneurological Institute . 1909-1920 taught history and theory of literature at the diocesan school.
Since 1920 - at Yerevan State University . In 1943 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philology without defending a dissertation.
One of the founders of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR (1943).
Created a scientific school in the field of philology.
