Biography
Born December 25, 1859 in Stockholm. She was the daughter of artist and his wife Eva Sandberg, who was the daughter of artist Johan Gustaf Sandberg .
Anna was educated privately from her father, who taught at the Elementarteckningsskolan Elementary School, which was preparing students for study at the Royal Academy of Arts . She did not attend the academy itself, since at that time women were not accepted there. In the 1880s, she became a student of historical artist and landscape painter . In 1885, with the support of her parents, Anna went to Europe, where she spent some time in Skagen , then studied with the artist-marine painter Roman Steppe ( Romain Steppe , 1859-1927) [6] in Antwerp and spent some time in Paris .
Anna Palm de Rosa was one of 84 artists who signed a letter in 1885 calling for radical changes in their studies at the Swedish Academy of Arts, which they considered obsolete. She exhibited at the Academy in 1885 and 1887, and from 1889 to 1891 taught watercolor painting in it. She was also a member of the newly created association of Swedish artists Svenska konstnärinnor .
On New Year's Eve 1895, she left Sweden and never returned to her. After spending a year in Paris , she moved to Italy, where she met the military, infantry lieutenant Alfredo de Rosa ( Alfredo de Rosa ). After the wedding in Paris in 1901, the couple moved first to Capri , then in 1908 settled in Madonna del Arco, Sant Anastasia district, near Naples . In Italy, she continued to write Stockholm motifs from photographs taken by and other photographers. During the First World War , when her husband was drafted into the army, she wrote a lot, especially the landscapes around the Gulf of Naples. She worked until her death on May 2, 1924.
Creativity
The watercolors of sea scenes with steamboats and sailing ships, which she created in Sweden, contributed to her growing popularity. She began to write many leads to satisfy her many clients, as well as scenes from Stockholm; created a series of works [7] dedicated to the Royal Palace . She also painted idyllic paintings, most often in watercolor, on Swedish motifs and motifs from France and Italy with compositions in which the villagers and horses were present. Created postcards, including Christmas.
Anna Palm de Rosa's works are in many museums in the Scandinavian countries, including the National Museum of Sweden , the Gothenburg Art Museum and the Boguslen Museum , in the Uppsala University library, in the museums of Norrköping and Helsinki .
