Sheckwitz or Shekecki ( German: Scheckwitz ; W.-puddle. Šekecy ) is a village in Upper Luzitz , Germany . It is part of the Kubschutz commune of the Bautzen district in Saxony . Submits to the administrative district of Dresden .

History

First mentioned in 1400 under the name Czakewicz [2] .

From 1936 to 1950, it was part of the Zorits commune. Since 1950, it has been part of the modern commune of Kubšiuc [3] .

Currently, the village is part of the cultural and territorial autonomy of the “ Luzhitsky Settlement Region ”, on the territory of which there are legislative acts of the lands of Saxony and Brandenburg, contributing to the preservation of the Luzhitsky languages and culture of Luzhic [4] [5] .

The official language in the village, in addition to German , is also Upper Luzhsky .

According to the statistical work “Dodawki k statisticy a etnografiji łužickich Serbow” by Arnost Muki, in 1884 57 people lived in the village (57 of them were Serbluzhichans (100%)) [7] .
