Initially, the project was planned as the 4th season of Narco , but in the end it became a separate series. Events unfold mainly in Mexico and are dedicated to the drug trade and drug trafficking [1] .
On December 5, 2018, the series was extended to season 2 [2] .

Story
The action of the 1st season takes place in the 1980s, in Mexico. The plot revolves around the confrontation between UBN and the just emerging Mexican drug cartels. The main characters are UBN agent Kiki Camarena ( Michael Peña ) and Guadalajara cartel leader Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo ( Diego Luna ) [1] .

Production
The production of the 4th season of the series “Narco” began at the end of 2017. On July 18, 2018, Netflix announced that the 4th season of Narco will be an independent project and will be released under the name Narco: Mexico [1] .
In December 2017, Michael Peña and Diego Luna were announced as lead actors [3] . A few days later Matt Letcher joined the cast [4] . In May 2018, Tenoch Huerta Mejia , Joaquín Cosio , Teresa Ruiz , Alyssa Diaz and Jose Maria Jaspik joined the squad [5] .
The series premiered on November 16, 2018 [6] .
Discrepancies
Unlike the series, in reality Felix Gallardo personally ordered the capture of Kiki Camarena [7] .
