History
Santa Park was opened on November 28, 1998, on the eve of the Christmas holidays . It is located inside the cave, which is located in the cliff of Sientenvaara. Santa Claus’s office and various Christmas-style stores are located in the ice gallery [1] . The park is open from June to August and from November to January.
The park was created by the English company Santaworld Ltd. The idea was to build a large amusement park. The cost of building the park was about 6.7 million euros. Finnair, MTV, Sampo, Foundation for the Protection of Children [2] participated in the financing of the project. Subsequently, the concept of the park was reworked and Santa Park was turned into a Santa Claus home cave, which began to focus on the Christmas theme, and winter nature. The main owner was a rural municipality, which was later incorporated into the city of Rovaniemi [3] .
On March 24, 2009, the shares of Santa Park Oy were sold to Santa's Holding. It was planned to increase the net revenues of the amusement park by half a million euros to 2 million euros [4] .
Santa Park is located about 9 km north-east of Rovaniemi and about 2 km from Rovaniemi Airport .
