Satinsky settlement

Satinsky settlement (also the settlement of Satinka ) - a settlement of the VIII century. BC e. - beginning of the 1st millennium BC e. It was located on the territory of the present Tula region on the banks of the Upa River (on a cape located between the river and a deep ravine) and covered an area of approximately 3.5 thousand square meters. m. [1] .

It was first discovered in 1936 by the employee of the Tula Museum of Local Lore G.A. Dorrer and examined by him over the next two years [2] . A large-scale study was conducted in 1961-1963 by the Tula Archaeological Expedition of the History Department of Moscow State University (under the leadership of S. A. Izyumova) [3] . As a result, the remains of residential and household buildings, as well as household products, tools, jewelry made of materials such as bronze, iron (signs of using iron-making and bronze casting), clay, bone and horn were found. The presence of a large number of the last two materials allowed us to conclude that cattle breeding was the main occupation of the inhabitants of the settlement (however, slash-and-burn agriculture was also developed).

In 2013, research on the settlement was continued by E. V. Stolyarov (an employee of the Tula Museum-Reserve “Kulikovo Field”), who came to the conclusion that “there are at least three cultural and chronological horizons of the monument’s existence in the early Iron Age ” [4 ] .
